Amazon Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote announced

Amazon Fire TV that supports 4K Ultra HD and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote were announced couple of days back along with other tablets. Lets take a closer look at the device.


Amazon Fire TV (2015) Specifications

The Amazon Fire TV is powered by a quad-core MediaTek (Dual 2.0 GHz + Dual 1.6 GHz) processor along with a PowerVR GX6250 GPU. It comes with 2 GB of RAM and has 8 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. It packs in a WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.1, DC Jack, HDMI output, microSD slot, USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet port as connectivity options. It is 17.8 mm thick and weighs 270 grams.

The new Amazon Fire TV have 4K capabilities that will let the users access 4K Ultra HD streams of Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Video and Netflix. According to Amazon, the device has 5x the processing power than the latest generation Roku and 8x the processing power of Chromecast.

The Fire TV supports Atmos (EC3_JOC), Photo (JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP), audio support for Dolby Audio 5.1 surround sound, HDMI audio pass through up to 7.1 and 2ch stereo. Content formats supported by this new TV are H.265, H.264 and audio (AAC-LC, AC3, eAC3, FLAC, MP3, PCM/Wave, Vorbis, Dolby).

The new Amazon Fire TV has been priced at US $99.99 (INR Rs 6,570 approximately) and is now on pre-order and will start shipping from October 5. The company also announced a new Fire TV Stick that is accompanied by a Voice Remote.


The new Amazon Fire TV Stick is powered by a dual-core processor and comes with 1 GB of RAM. It has 4x the storage and 2x the memory of Chromecast. The company has integrated “Alexa” into the device that is basically a popular cloud-based assistant (seen in Echo). Alexa will work via the voice-enabled remote control that comes with the Fire TV and will allow the users to find TV shows, weather reports, sports scores, movies, apps and more by simply speaking to the remote. The stick also has better WiFi performance and supports Dolby Audio.

The new Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote is also on pre-order and has been priced at US $49.99 (INR Rs 3,280 approximately). It starts shipping from October 22. The company also launched new Amazon Fire tablet and Fire Kids Edition, new Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets.
