All about MIUI 6 under one hood; public release in October

Today is 16th of August 2014 and 4 years back on this day Xiaomi was formed. Happy 4th anniversary folks. They celebrate Aug 16 as a festival and on this special day they have come up with their new ROM – MIUI6 as promised. The company has been growing at a great pace and we believe they will keep up their good work. Talking about MIUI 6, they say “Content is Essence”. Let’s have a deep look on what MIUI 6 will offer us.MIUI has taken a brand new design, follows ‘Content is essence’ philosophy. Its icons are much simpler.   Now MIUI has translated the ROM to 28 languages which makes user across the globe use the ROM with ease. MIUI has also got 26 global fan-sites.


August 16 is a festival for Xiaomi as we mentioned earlier. Xiaomi was founded on April 6, 2010, and MIUI was first released on August 18, 2010. It’s the first product of Xiaomi. Now MIUI has 70 Million users. MIUI has grown very fast. It took 849 days for MIUI to get its first 10m users from August, 2010 to December, 2012. But it only took 48 days for MIUI users to grow from 60m to 70m. According to a survey by Flurry, Mi Phones users spend 7% more time on their phones than iPhone users in China


MIUI 6 has a powerful global search function. One can bring out the search box anywhere on home screen, and it could locate the app after searching for it. MIUI 6 supports moving apps by holding on the app and switch screens. It has the most convenient icons organizing method, supports batch organize and delete icons. Earlier the MIUI android launcher had this feature and now it’s in MIUI 6. It also supports lock screen notifications and smart display of the notifications. You can deal with the more important notifications first. Priorities do matter! MIUI lock screen notifications are folded by default. It supports superscripts for each app to show its notifications, and you can clear them all from notification shade.

MIUI 6 has a redesigned Mail app to put all mails with the same subject into one folder so that you can see what’s new at a glance. Decide which emails you want to read first and when. An attachment list also allows you to view and save attachments directly. Hundreds of mail account types are supported, just fill in your email address and password.

MIUI 6 will give you a brand new photo taking experience. User can swipe down to switch between front and back camera, swipe left to bring out the menu panel, and swipe right to bring out the real-time filter.


MIUI 6 comes with more power-saving mode to adjust the standby time of your device. You no longer have to worry about running out of battery at moments when you need it the most. The ROM introduces various Linux kernel & RAM optimization techniques, which allow applications to run more efficiently. It is much faster and super awesome.


With MIUI 6, you won’t need extra safety tools. Top security is guaranteed within the operating system to protect against malicious apps and viruses. The built-in Permission in MIUI 6 prevents unauthorized apps from accessing your data without your permission. Besides, the exclusive Virus Scan helps you check and kill virus before installing any app. Clean Master, the world’s most downloaded Android cleaner, is built-in to help you free up storage. With complete network control features, Data Usage is capable of helping you monitor network traffic and save data.


Mi Cloud lets you access your photos, contacts, messages, call logs and more from anywhere. With 10 GB of free storage and more powerful features, Mi Cloud seamlessly syncs all content on your Mi Phone, Mi Pad, Mi TV and more. Mi Cloud allows you to sync bookmarks in the MIUI Browser. You can continue browsing web sites on your Mi Pad from where you left off on your Mi Phone.


MIUI 6 will first be tested by 1000 beta tester, and the team will grow to 10000 people by August 22. MIUI 6 developer version will be open to public in the beginning of September. By the end of 2014, Xiaomi Mi 2/2S/2A,  Redmi devices and Redmi Note will start testing. MIUI 6 is in beta and will be available to the public in October
