Alcatel Idol 4S with 5.5-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 652 chipset now official

Before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 madness begins in Barcelona, Alcatel has announced two new smartphones – the Idol 4 and Idol 4S in their Idol series. Also, the company has decided to drop the ONETOUCH branding and will start operating under the ALCATEL brand name. Lets check out the specifications and features of Alcatel Idol 4S here.

Alcatel Idol 4S Specifications

The Alcatel Idol 4S features a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD AMOLED display that comes with Precog UI (touchless control), Live UI and Parallax UI. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (Quad 1.8 GHz + Quad 1.4 GHz) processor along with 550 MHz Adreno 510 GPU. It has 3 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of internal memory which can also be expanded up to 512 GB via microSD card. The device runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box. It comes with a glass back along with a metal frame and has a in-mould spin-effect texture. It supports Dual SIM.

The Idol 4S comes with a 16 megapixel primary rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. It has a 8 megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash for selfies and video calling. It is 6.99 mm thick and weighs 149 grams. Alcatel has patterned with JBL and Waves to bring superior audio experience and thus the device comes with dual 2.6 watt speakers, NXP’s TFA9890 Smart Power Amplifier, Hi-Fi Surround-sound for the J22 JBL headphones. It has also been optimized and comes with both automatic and manual audio presets. You also get BOOM Key Experience Booster and FM Radio.

The Idol 4S includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB OTG and GPS with A-GPS as connectivity options. The smartphone packs in a 3,000 mAh battery under the hood which supports fast charging. The Idol 4S comes with an innovative packaging design that will transform into a pair of virtual reality goggles and offer an immersive 360-degree view to the consumers. It has Onetouch VR Store app that will help the user download virtual reality content or they can also choose to stream realtime content via LittlStar.

The phone is reversible in three ways. “The interface rights itself no matter if the users picks it up right side up or upside down. In addition, it is reversible left to right: stereo sound is always on the correct side, even when the phone is flipped. And the strategically placed speaker grill ensures that sound is unobstructed, whether the phone is facing up or turned over,” said Alcatel.

The Alcatel Idol 4S is available in Gold, Dark Gray, Metal Silver and Rose Gold color variants. Pricing and availability has not been announced yet but the company will showcase both the smartphones during MWC from February 22 to 25.
